Stand
The brewing stand is constructed entirely of half inch
rigid copper tubing that has been silver soldered to
ninety-degree angles and copper tees. It has proven itself to be
very compact and very rigid. It easily holds the weight of the
tanks and has proven to be very reliable. Mounted at the bottom on
the left is the March 809HS Pump. It
is connected to the stand via Beer, Beer, and More Beer's pump
mounting bracket that allows the pump to slide in and out if
necessary. Mounted on the left are the controls for the
Mash Tun electronic temperature control
(ETC), the Pump on/off switch with light,
and an accessory outlet that is toggled by the float switch. On
the right are the Hot Liquor Tank ETC and
the hot water heater element master switch with light. The switch
also controls the bathroom vent fan agitation motor. At the top of
the stand is the electronic thermometer that reads the
Boil Kettle temperature. |

Tee Fitting
This is a close-up of one of the copper tees used for the
shelf supports. Each shelf consists of four horizontal struts that
terminate in copper tee connectors on each end. They were cleaned,
lightly polished, and sprayed with lacquer to maintain the shine.
There are 34 Tee sections in the design. I have added a couple of
side struts in order to add some additional support to the stand.
So far, it seems to have absolutely no problem handling the weight
of both tanks. |

Ninety-Degree
Fitting A ninety-degree copper
connector is used at every corner of the stand. There are eight of
these in the finished design. They lend a nice finished look and
increase the stability of the stand considerably. They are
soldered in place, cleaned, lightly polished, and sprayed with a
protective coating of lacquer. The lacquer should keep the surface
from turning green over the course of the years. |

as many details as possible as well as accurate measurements of

Stand
Strength I have included the picture at right
to help demonstrate the strength of my copper brewing stand.
I weigh approximately 185 pounds and can be seen sitting atop the
stand in this photograph. During this test, the stand didn't
give even the remotest hint that it would collapse. I have
every confidence that the stand will last for as long as I choose
to be interested in the hobby of home brewing. I also
believe that larger batch sizes could be used in conjunction with
this stand with no ill effects. |
